Artist Biography

Ron Hall has been an artist and art educator for the last 40years. He is an award-winning artist and has had numerous solo and groupexhibitions throughout the North Island of New Zealand. Highlights of Hall’scareer have included his gaining a Master of Fine Arts Degree, being judged byBarry Lett as the overall winner in the open section of the Molly MorpethAwards and the inclusion of his work in a public art collection.

During his career, Ron has been involved with the moderationof Masters and Diploma students’ work in two tertiary institutions, and was avisiting tutor for the visual arts, Christchurch College of Education, trainingfuture secondary school art teachers.

In 2007, Ron was named premier winner of the Rotorua ArtAwards for a large assemblage work. The judge was the late JonathanMane-Wheoki, CNZM, who was Director of Art and Collection Services at theMuseum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa at the time. Two years later, in 2009,Ron won two Tauranga National Art Awards. One for a painting and the other foran assemblage work.

Although Ron is most known for his formalist art assemblagescreated from beehive boards, tea boxes and other industrial materials, he isalso an accomplished painter, working in various styles.
