New Zealand artist Miranda J Caird captures the spirit and rhythm of the Waikato landscape through her distinctive, stylised approach to painting. Working in translucent layers of colour, she builds subtle tonal shifts and light-filled depth that evoke the essence of place rather than its literal form. Strong defining lines and fluid compositions bring structure and harmony to her work, reflecting the quiet strength of the land and its ever-changing moods. Her recent paintings celebrate the mountains, farmland, and skies of the Waikato — landscapes that hold both familiarity and mystery. Through her art, Miranda invites viewers to pause and reconnect with the natural beauty that defines Aotearoa.

Miranda J Caird is a full-time New Zealand artist who began selling her work in 2003. Painting quickly became a full-time vocation, driven by her deep connection to the land and sea. Her studio — a small bach at Whale Bay, Raglan — overlooks the ocean, offering the solitude and inspiration she needs to immerse herself in the creative flow, free from deadlines and distractions.
Rather than focusing on solo exhibitions, Miranda has chosen to work as a stock artist, sending her paintings directly to galleries and collectors. Over 2,000 originals have found homes throughout New Zealand and around the world.
Her paintings have featured on the cover of Contemporary New Zealand Art calendars, and she has received awards including an Open Class Award at the Waimarino Art Awards and a Merit Award at the Great Waikato Art Show. Miranda has also completed residencies with the Mackenzie Country Arts Council and at Arthur’s Pass Alpine Motel. In recent years, she has expanded her practice to produce her own archival giclée prints.
