For me, where artmaking is concerned, ‘truth’ and ‘beauty’ are my two guiding lights. I spend endless hours choosing my subject matter and working out harmonious compositions which are beautiful and evoke a sense of wonder & awe, firstly in me and then hopefully in my viewers.
Jacqui Hart is an oil painter living in Hamilton.
Jacqui has always loved art and has happy memories of coming home from primary school and drawing on her blackboard outside on sunny afternoons.
At high school she studied Art & Art History where she discovered the work of the Old Masters, and the Pre-Raphaelites, but it wasn’t until her children were grown up and had left home that Jacqui found the time and space to set up a home studio where she could develop her artistic skills & reconnect with her creative passions.
Jacqui is a self-taught artist but has been strongly influenced by the work and online tutoring of Mark Carder, an American Realist painter. Jacqui spent several years painting portraiture, finding human faces a compelling source of inspiration and had her first solo exhibition of NZ Artist Portraits in 2021. She has also participated in several group exhibitions as well as being a finalist in the NZPPA 2016.
Being a kiwi girl, Jacqui also loves painting native NZ birds, and flowers because their beauty and colour provide are a refreshing counterbalance to the intensity of human portraiture. She is currently painting large-format floral pieces on Belgian linen which explore the interplay between light & shade and layering & texture.
