Annemieke Farmilo

Framed expressions of wild and rugged New Zealand landscapes using pounamu, glass and natural treasures. Each piece is designed to place the viewer into the scene of the artwork. Annemieke hopes people can hear gulls cry and feel the wind rustling through the trees and valleys.

Artist Biography

Annemieke creates her art using predominantly New Zealand Pounamu (nephrite jade) and glass.

‘By arranging these two mediums I create strong, very visual yet peaceful, abstract forms depicting the more rugged New Zealand landscapes where water meets land.

The magic happens instinctively as my eyes and hands move around my collections of stone, fauna, flora and mineral earthly organic materials, to painstakingly recreate dynamic art works.’

‘Stunning Great Barrier Island gave the initial inspiration for this creative concept. Whilst fishing from our small boat a little way off the coastline, I drink in the mastery of day break and sun down and feast on the visual masterpiece of ocean meeting a barren rugged coast. The picture is always changing and it is all here, reproduced in my art.

‘I am a hunter and collector. My most treasured past time is being out in nature, in a pair of tramping boots or on my horse. My eyes cannot stop taking in the beauty of all they see and my feet, or my horse, won’t stop taking me further. This passion for mountain trails, vast valleys, rivers, rocks and coastlines, the big sky, the small creatures and all the nuances of nature, that is what drives my art. That is what I feel and see and hear, that is exactly what my art depicts.

It is exactly what brings my work to life.’
