Michelle Bocock
A passion for sketching and painting as a teenager led me into Oil Painting. I still use my original easel and box given to me by my parents.
Early ambitions and a short career as a Sign Writer were soon replaced by Airbrush work and Custom Painting. I studied a variety of subject matter from the traditional customising of Hot Rods to animal portraiture. During this exciting period I learnt the art of layering using automotive lacquers in transparent glazes to build form and depth. Freehand airbrush painting proved to be a demanding medium that requires both concentration and precision.
Highlights from my Artistic journey include creating several Murals. The largest at 23 metres squared (2.4m high x 9.6m wide) was as a waterfall scene. Others include St Patricks School film strip depicting aspects of their school and various signs for local businesses. I have worked with students teaching the basics of mosaic tiling, sculpture, mural, arts and craft so they could create their own playground masterpieces. Several years as a Gracelands Art Tutor has been one of my most rewarding experiences.
I live in the Puahue district and work with a variety of mediums including Oil Paints, Acrylic, Mixed Media, Watercolour and Printmaking. I enjoy the challenge of creating work on a commission basis.

Vineyard Collection
A recent exploration of the complexities of the depth of colour one can achieve with oil pigments has drawn me to exhibit my current works. They are mixed media and Oil on canvas.
I enjoy creating the illusion of texture through colour and form. Texture has been moulded into some pieces to emphasize visual impact. Each of my paintings is a reflection of what I have seen, not necessarily a true representation of form.
My challenge . . .
To explore the development of form through the use of light and dark - To define the perception space
To use glazing techniques to create feeling and depth
These pieces are an expression of colour and the emotion it evokes. I have used vintage wine and natural form as a tool for this exploration. I have endeavoured to capture moments in time to portray the beauty of nature. A local vineyard provided the inspiration for the series.
