Lauren Kitts
Lauren Kitts has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a major in sculpture, from the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA. 1985
She also has a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Waikato, 1981
Since returning to New Zealand in 1985, she has been a full time professional sculptor, as well as being a mother of two beautiful daughters.
She has attended over 30 sculpture symposia, nationally and internationally, exhibits regularly at events like "Sculpture Onshore", and does work on a commission basis. She says of her work:
Sculpture informs me about myself, and about the world I live in. I often find that the subject matter I am working on in a given period will later become more clear to me. An insight appears into something I was unconsciously aware of, but not consciously present to, until it became actualized in sculptural form . My background in psychology also informs my work. I am interested in the workings of human emotions and spirit. The resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity, and the eternal prescence of a universal power within us, guides a lot of my work.
