Billie Mallett

Billie Mallett, born 1948, mother of 4, Mopsy to 12. Widowed at 55, l eventually faced up to rediscovering myself, moving gradually into the empty rooms of my life and filling them with the new me! Having had a long 35 year break from painting, l tentatively picked up my brushes again and began to express the multitude of emotions falling out of me; mostly using the human figure and colour to convey feelings and emotions. Since then l have been fortunate to spend part of each year in New Zealand, finding more and more time to paint. l love the landscape which l see as the human form "lolling around the hills." the sharp shadows and intense colours are beginning to have an increasing affect on my work. My hope is to continue to spend some of each year in NZ painting and building up a good body of work and to continue to "improve with age!" l have exhibited in Red Earth gallery in Devon, Gallery 69, in Crediton, UK. I have had shows with 2 painter friends and been involved with Open Studios in both Exeter and Mercury Bay, NZ. l have also had a one woman show in Tulips Gallery, Lyme Regis, UK. l am told l paint an exciting portrait and am open to accept commissions.
