Janice Meadows

I find printmaking the most satisfying way of making art. I enjoy the combination of artistic and technical effort, the process of translating an image from my mind's eye to a plate or block, the relationship I form with the image during proofing when I'm learning the best way to ink it, and the anticipation and pleasure of pulling a good print at the end of the process.

My subject matter varies widely, from forms in nature to domestic ware, and from prognosticating toys to people at the beach, usually rendered in a representational style. Practising a range of techniques allows me to suit the medium to the image and idea I want to convey.

My works employ several forms of intaglio - etching, drypoint, mezzotint - as well as the relief techniques of linocut, woodcut and wood engraving.

My prints are held privately in Australia, NZ, UK, USA, and Finland, and publicly in the Waikato Museum.
