Hilary Ramage

Printmaker, Painter, and Bookbinder.

I was born and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland.I immigrated to New Zealand in 1997.

I attended Edinburgh College of Art, evenings 1961 -62, 1962¬-63, and St. Andrews University Summer School, Watercolour Landscape painting in 1979 and 1980. I was fortunate to be able to attend regular workshops at the studio of Archie Sutter Watt RSW, painter and printmaker from 1982 - 1997. Other tutors in Scotland include: Jessie May Stirling, painter, Jo Maxwell RSW, painter, and Sara Beevers, painter, mixed media.

I have been strongly influenced by Archie Sutter Watt RSW, also by John Maxwell and Sir William Gillies.

My inspiration comes mostly from the land and sea. I also enjoy portraiture and imaginative work.
I work with various media, at present preferring acrylic inks on canvas or paper, woodcuts and mono-printing and drypoint etching and often including collage.
Most of my work contains some element of printmaking.

Baffin Street Gallery and Studio has its focus on printmaking. Up to fourteen printmakers have their work exhibited here, mostly from North Island New Zealand, but also from Scotland.

I exhibit my work widely, both solo and in joint and group exhibitions.
I also take part in selected members' exhibitions at NZAFA, WSA, and CPCANZ exhibitions.
I am also represented in Scotland by the Tom Davidson Gallery in Earlston.
