Sue Roots

Sue became a printmaker in 2003 by initially attending Woodcut classes at the Waikato Society of Arts in Hamilton. From 2004 she has focused solely on Etching.
This year, 2008, she purchased an etching press and has established a studio at home.

She draws her ideas from observations of the natural world and expressions of her life experience. She is always collecting and pressing - leaves, flowers, fabrics and all things textural!
"The evolving image, the etching process and chance are the integral aspects that make this art form so exciting to me!"

Sue attended Palmerston North Teachers College & Massey University in the mid-1970's and has taught in primary schools in the Bay of Plenty, Wairoa & Taranaki. In 1995 Sue and her family moved to Hamilton and she currently teaches in a job-share position at Knighton Normal School.
