Di West

For me, art is about observing. I am often deeply influenced by things and events around me; and, as an artist, my endeavour is to interpret my reactions and thoughts, into paintings and into sculpture. My focus is always one of optimism, with a touch of humour and playfulness. Most often the titles for my artworks are the catalyst for the creation, it’s words and metaphors that I find interesting and that I take inspiration from. In my sculpture, I am fascinated by line, form and balance and in my paintings I only use Oil on Canvas……….all my art has a narrative.

My background is in Interior Design, having won many awards for my work. I have been a full time artist for over 20 years.

I hold a Certificate of Fine Art, a Diploma of Fine Art and also a Master of Fine Art Degree from QUT Kelvin Grove, Queensland, Australia.

Fortunately, I have won many awards for my work, being a finalist in the Blake Prize for Religious Art; twice selected for both the Stanthorpe Arts Festival and the Noosa Regional Gallery Travelling Scholarship, and also selected for the Gold Coast Art Prize.

I have lived most of my life in Brisbane, however in 2016 I returned to live in Northland, New Zealand, my homeland.  I share my home with my husband and two pussycats; and my studio overlooks the beautiful Bay of Islands. I am represented by several major galleries in Australia and New Zealand.
