Natasha Courtney Fine Woodwork

I studied furniture making in Nelson at the Centre for Fine Woodworking and now work from my studio workshop on the Coromandel Peninsula.

Over the last five or so years my style has evolved to one of a ‘less is more’ approach.
I admire the understated beauty of design styles such as Bauhaus and Shaker. Most of my work is utility, although occasionally I experiment with sculptural pieces too.

I like to work with sustainably grown timbers both native and exotic and enjoy the challenge of reworking recycled timber.  I use a selection of wood finishes, including Danish Oil, Shellac and my own homemade bees wax polish.  My tools range from traditional hand tools to power tools and machinery.
