Katie Trinkle Legge

Katie was born in New York in1965.  She received her BFA with honors in 1988, from The University of the Arts Philadelphia. While in University she explored many mediums, eventually focusing on painting.  Today her work is a unique combination of contemporary and classical painting styles.  Her lush palette and powerful brush strokes evoke a dynamic sense of space and depth on each canvas.  Katie’s unique vision and understanding of light bring common objects to a new plane. She has been exhibiting her work professionally for over 25 years.

She is strongly influenced by California painters Wayne Thiebeau and Richard Diebenkorn.  Their painterly styles and philosophy resonate within her work.

“If you stare at an object, as you do when you paint, there is no point at which you stop learning things from it.”-Wayne Thiebeau

She and her Kiwi husband Darren recently relocated to New Zealand to be closer to family in Auckland.  Her studio is located on the Island of Waiheke where the light and natural beauty continue to inspire her. Her work currently is exhibited both in the USA and New Zealand.
