Gates For A Landscape

GATES FOR A LANDSCAPE

19 April-24 May 2015

A SOLO EXHIBITION OF UNIQUE GATES BY BRUCE YOUNG

Opening Event   2:30-4:30pm Sunday 19 April 2015

‘Push the latch, open the gate and you are somewhere else. The gate is a threshold to another world, either real or imaginary’.-Peter Parkinson

While installing a new creative gate for Inspirit Gallery the discussion turned to “what if other people want one?” and the idea of making a small selection to present as an exhibition was born.

Gates define a property, what they say about the owners and their territory.  A gate can be a statement of how they see themselves and how they want others to see them.  A gate attracts curiosity and few people can resist opening and shutting it or peering through or over it to see what is beyond.  The owners can show the world their special interests by choosing images or symbols woven into the frames.

A Gate doesn’t necessarily need to be part of a fence or hedge – it can be a sculptural object on its own in an area of garden where it catches the eye and the imagination.

A Gaggle of Art Gates for the discerning!

This collection of gates represents many months of work but parts of the designs go back many years.  Artists often say  “it has taken me my whole life to get to this point, where I can produce this.”
