Veronica Young
Wellington based artist Veronica Young studied fine arts and photographic design, graduating in 2006 with a first class honours degree (bdes) from the School of Fine Arts, Massey University in Wellington.
Since then she has been exhibiting her work in various venues around the country, including the New Zealand Art Show, Wellington Museum of City and Sea, the NZ Academy of Fine Arts and Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art & History.
Veronica has been the recipient of several awards. Most recently in the Wai Art Portrait Exhibition she was awarded a merit and also placed second in the people’s choice vote.
Her mixed media artwork explores memories in their most nostalgic form. Through layers of different media, which include photographs, collage and paint, images emerge of teacups, keys, old books and other treasures. These mementos evoke a sense of a story; one that the viewer can almost seem to recall, or perhaps invent, from fragments of their own memories.
Veronica’s work can be found in private collections in New Zealand, Australia and the United States and in the public collection of the Wellington Museum of City and Sea.
Happy Days Exhibition- 2 March-3 April 2012 In this collection for Happy Days she takes inspiration from the summer holidays we all remember from our childhoods. Her work evokes memories of Grandad sunbaking in his deck chair at the campground, of picnics by the river, days at the bach and of a time when kids roamed on adventures for hours on end, cycling helmetless and carefree.
